A Time to Remember

Who could forget that day when our world collapsed around us?

Staring at the TV, blinking uncontrollably, thinking I couldn’t

Really be seeing what was happening right before my eyes…

Oh no!!!!!! The twin towers crumbling in slow motion, smoke, fire

People jumping to their death trying to escape the flames.

Everywhere, people running, screaming so many lives lost, so

Many things left unsaid, too much grief to bare, we pushed on.

Reacting to the devasation around us. Plane down in PA, pentagon

On fire – what’s going on? – Terrorists they say.

First responders jumped right in never thinking of themselves

or the danger they faced or would face in the future.

Reacting in desperation, “I must save someone, there must

be something I can do.”

Stories of everyday people helping one another, trying to get to

Safety, New Yorkers walking miles just trying to connect with

Love ones…… where were YOU when it happened? Peace and

Safety in an instant turned to death and destruction.

Gloom spread throughout the smoke-filled air. Visibility zero,

It seemed the whole world was blanketed in grayness. The soot

And ash choking out life. Eyes burning, people running aimlessly.

People from afar not being able to contact love ones, no phone service….

barely breathing for fear of the worst.

The days following were sobering; ground zero like a death camp.

People posting up names of victims still unaccounted for.

Prayers going up, tears flowing down the streets of Manhattan.

The soot and ash blanketing the streets… hallowed ground. Empty

Hearts…. And today again, someone didn’t return home. Messages

Left in Penn Station, people hoping, searching for a clue of life.

The silence almost deafening as I read the hundreds of names and

Messages left in hope. I think part of me died that day.

The days, years since then have forever changed us.

Safety and security no more to be found – gone forever.

The history books will read…. “The Post 911 years”

The time when things drastically changed in the U.S.

The stories that were told, the lives that were lost, the lives

that were saved.

We all were touched and changed because of that one event.

Remembering 911……. How could we ever forget!!!!!

  1. That will be a day I will never forget. I felt sad, helpless, scared and angry all at the same time. I can not imagine what kind of mind could come up with a plan that could cause so much destruction . I thank God that we live in such a strong country. I pray to God that such an event will never happen again.

  2. I remember the deep depression and not being able to process it. My brother worked in the area as well as his stepdaughter. But as u know Arthur is a survivor. I didnt know it at the time but He immediately went and found stepdaughter and proceeded to make his way thru the Bronx to Newark. Meanwhile I’m watching all these folks wandering around dazed and covered with ash or trudging in shock over the bridges to get away from Manhattan. I’ m thinking where is Art, is he ok? When phone svc was finally restored and I got thru to his home, he had been there for hours and was fast asleep! To this day it’s still my brightest memory of 9/11.
